THE PROBLEM:***** IT IS VERY COMMON FOR THE STAINLESS STEEL EXHAUST MANIFOLD TO CRACK CAUSING EXHAUST GASES TO LEAK. The stainless-steel exhaust manifolds fitted to many BMW vehicles frequently fail, often after as little as 40,000 miles, with some vehicles having 2 or 3 replaced so far. These manifolds are not suited to the conditions of the fitment and through expansion and contraction with heating /cooling eventually fail. Developing cracks or slits in the manifold causing exhaust gas leaks and the symptoms noted. These stainless-steel manifolds are simply not up to the job, BMW still offer these as replacements at a vast expense, fitting another stainless-steel manifold it would just fail again. ***** VEHICLES AFFECTED AND PART NUMBERS:***** 3 SERIES E46 (06/1998 — 08/2006) 5 SERIES E39 (12/1997 — 12/2003) 5 SERIES E60 (02/2002 — 02/2007) 5 SERIES E61 (11/2002 — 02/2007) 7 SERIES E38 (12/1997 — 07/2001) 7 SERIES E65 (11/2001 — 02/2005) X5 E53 (01/2000 — 09/2006) ASSOCIATED PART NUMBERS: 11627788422, 11622248166
